Talk Back to the Candidates
Give us your opinion on the foreign policy issues you feel are important in the 2008 election. Peace and security, human rights, global warming, poverty and hunger, disarmament, imigration. What do you want to tell your candidates.
Your comments will be a part of our project "Talk Back to the Candidates" which includes foreign policy forums around Iowa. If you want your comments to be considered for a publication for Congressional and Presidential candidates on what Iowans think about the issues, be sure to add your name, email and home town at the end of your comment.

Peace and Security

Is our security won through the military or police protection? Can we achieve peace through war?
It seems to me that these are contradictions. But I do believe we can achieve peace and security, not by promoting conflict, but by understanding our world and figuring out how we can provide opportunities for individual aspirations.
Conflict is most often over economic opportunity. If individuals see no way of moving ahead with their families, the choices can easily move to violence and rage over those that appear to be standing in the way.
We need to be moving together with better understanding. To do that we need to talk!
I just saw a tape where President Bush says that conditions in Iraq are improving...funny but he said this in 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006 and he says the same thing now. Meanwhile, Iraq is in the midst of a civil war. Millions of Iraqi's have fled the country, the Iraqi police sometimes escort terrorist to the roads to set roadside bombs and Iraq still has an inadequate Army. Our soldiers are dying and for what? HMMMMMM...maybe it is time that President Bush admits that he was and is wrong and start listening to the American public.
My heart aches for every soldier who has fought and died or has wounds both pyhsically and mentally. President Bush visited a part of Iraq where there isn't as much violence...maybe he should have gone to Baghdad or other areas where our troops are sitting ducks- riding around in their humvies, trying to protect civilains but not getting any answers because the citizens are afaid to talk because their families might be harmed.
Too much to say.. but we must remember this: Iraq did not cause 911, Iraq didn't have weapons of mass destruction and we should have used deplomacy.
